Glorifying God...Expanding His Kingdom

July 2019 Newsletter

From the Pastor Search Committee…

It is with great pleasure that the Pastor Search Committee bring this glad announcement—we have unanimously agreed to invite J. Allen Thomas to come to Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church the weekend of August 3 and 4 in view of a call.

Allen graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Denise presently reside in Fort Worth, Texas with their five children Oakley (7), Haley Ray (6), Berkley (3), Saylor 2, and Urban (4 months).

Allen has served as a Youth Minister in small and mega churches. In addition, he served as an intentional interim Pastor for nine months. He was licensed and ordained November 15, 2009 at the Second Baptist Church in Angleton, Texas. Allen calls Denise his partner as she serves along with him.

Allen provided this personal statement:

Over the last 15 years, God has worked within my heart and life to equip me to shepherd His people. He has used a combination of life experiences, academic training and ministry experiences to teach and mold me for this purpose. I am committed to preaching the whole counsel of God with text-driven sermons and serving a body of believers. My hope is to see a congregation that wants to make an eternal difference by Loving God, Loving Others, Sharing Jesus and Making Disciples!

In accordance with the Constitution, Allen will preach as our guest candidate in view of a call on Sunday, August 4, at the 10:45 am service. Following the service, lunch will be provided followed by a question and answer session to enable you to get to know the family better. Childcare will be provided for both the worship service and Q&A session.

Following the Q&A, we will have a time of prayer and worship followed by a business meeting where a motion to call Allen will be presented by the Pastor Search Committee. Secret ballot on the motion by church members will be a vote to call or not to call Allen as our next Pastor.

Thank you for your faithful prayers these many months. Please continue to pray for us as well as Allen and his family. Watch for more details as plans for the next few weeks unfold.
