Glorifying God...Expanding His Kingdom

August 2018 Newsletter

A Word from the Pastor…

Have you ever heard of “FTT”?  Well it stands for “Failure to Thrive”.  Failure to Thrive is a condition that babies can have when they fail to grow, gain weight or develop as they should.  If a baby is experiencing FTT, the doctor will take steps of action to get the baby to thrive.

This is not only a condition in babies, but you can see this in plants, crops, trees and other living things.  For example, a plant that is thriving will be green, lush, strong and growing.  Also, a thriving plant will produce more fruit.  A plant with FTT will be weak, frail, stunted and unfruitful.

The Bible teaches us that God wants us to thrive spiritually.  In Proverbs 92:12-13 it says “The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar of Lebanon.  Planted in the house of the Lord, they thrive in the courts of our God.” (CSV)  Notice twice in this verse it says God wants us to thrive spiritually and He compares our spiritual thriving to a thriving tree.  God wants us to thrive!  We even sing a song that says “We were made to thrive.”

My question for us is this, are we thriving spiritually or are we experiencing spiritual FTT (Failure to Thrive)?  If we are not thriving, then we will not be flourishing, strong, growing or bearing fruit.  If you are experiencing FTT, then you need to take some actions to begin to thrive.

First, have a close, personal daily love relationship with God.  This is your spiritual food and water necessary to flourish.  Second, read God’s Word daily.  Psalm 1:2-3 says “those who delight in and meditate on God’s Word will be like a tree planted beside flowing streams that bears its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither.” (CSV)  In other words, the tree thrives.  Third, turn from sin and obey God.  Psalm 92:12 says “the righteous shall thrive.”  Fourth, attend church each Sunday.  Psalm 92:13 says “planted in the house of the Lord they thrive.” (CSV)

Let’s strive to thrive and avoid FTT.

Thank You…

Hello dear friends,

This week your partnership has helped a young man in addiction start the road to recovery.  We were able to move a young mom and her child into new housing and able to pour life into the life of a young family in severe crisis.  Know that you are making a difference in this community.

Blessed to do it side by side for His glory,

Tammy Iskarous

Executive Director of Riverbend Family Ministries
