Glorifying God...Expanding His Kingdom

Ministries and Programs

Worship Services

Our worship is a blended service with traditional hymns as well as contemporary praise music led by a praise team. Our services involve a strong pulpit ministry with a pastor who boldly, but simply proclaims God's Word. We also use drama and video as a tool to communicate the truths of God's Word.

Our church provides child care during the morning worship services for children
ages 0-5.  We also have Children's Church for children ages K-Gr 4 during the message part of our morning worship service.  The children leave the worship service after the song service just before the message.

Every person who works with our children has been a member of our church for at least 6 months and has gone through our Child Protection and Screening Process.  For security, children are only released to authorized adults after the service.

Music Ministry

Music is an important part of the ministry at Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church.  The music for our worship services is a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary music.  Whitelaw is blessed to have many talented and devoted musicians who enjoy praising the Lord through music.

Everyone is welcome to become a part of our Adult Choir, which meets on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 p.m.  This is a good opportunity to get to know and fellowship with other church members of all ages.  The adult choir provides special music throughout the year as well as a cantata at Christmas.

Children's Choir meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and includes the first through sixth grades.  Children's Choir involves drama and also provides special music and a Christmas program.

Our church has a great group of musical leaders and many soloists that provide special music throughout the year.  Praise Team leads the congregation During our Worship Service.  Kathy Croxton is our pianist and Jan Timmins is the organist.  If you have any questions on how to become involved in the music ministry, please contact our Music Director, Jan Timmins.

Children's Ministry

Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church provides several different areas of ministry and recreation for our Children's Department.  We offer Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, Children's Choir at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, and Team Kids for children Kindergarten-6th grade at 7:00p.m. on Wednesday evening.

We provide Sunday morning Children's Church for our children in kindergarten through fourth grade.

Pastor Newcom also provides counseling sessions for children who accept Christ as their Savior

Throughout the year, our children grades 1-6 and their families participate in several recreational events.  Some examples are:  Trunk-or-Treat, movie nights , Vacation Bible School and other children's activities.

We would love to have your children involved in our Children's Department where we can minister to them and show them God's love in action.

Sunday School

We have a wonderful Sunday School here at Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church.  We have classes for all ages.

We feel it is important to study and learn about our Lord Jesus Christ.  We have everything from Preschool to a Singles Class to Senior Adult Classes.  We have Children's and Preschool Classes for all age ranges.  Come join us as we study God's Word. We also have small groups who meet in homes to study God's Word and grow in Christ. See the Bible Study Link for more details.

Youth Ministries

We'd like to invite all students in grades 7-12 to be involved in our Student Ministries Program.  We have Bible Study each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. where we study through a passage in the Bible to learn its truths and apply it to our everyday lives.

We have Youth Studies on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m.  Although we have games, food and fellowship, the main focus is growing in Christ.  We also have a S.P.A.C.E. Youth Fellowship every other Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. at the Youth "White" House.

Throughout the year, we stress nationally recognized movements such as "See You at the Pole," a school campaign strategy, and "True Love Waits," an abstinence program.  We also give the students an opportunity to use their talents for the Lord in a Creative Movements Team, drama, and music.  Our monthly activities include:  Youth Encounter, retreats, Centrifuge (Youth Summer Camp), music concerts, Six-Flags, game nights with our favorite games such as"Romans and Christians", and other fun activities planned by our YMCA (Youth Managing Christian Activites).

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity."  1 Timothy 4:12

Drama

We have found drama to be an effective tool in our services.  A variety of dramatic arts are utilized including dramatic readings, poetry, creative movement, puppetry and skits.  People of all ages have the opportunity to minister through drama in our services.

Keenagers

This is a fellowship group of seniors from Whitelaw Avenue Baptist Church. They meet once a quarter in a variety of places and ways for fellowship and activites.
